Subaru Outback's for sound?

Anyone know how hard/easy the subaru outbacks are to work on in general? Do they have a lot of rattling issues, is the wiring teh ghey etc. Im thinking about picking one up after the totalling of my last car, and i like the wagon aspect of this car for my MAG.

Well, for one, you should join NASIOC. Secondly, their stock system is horrible, so if your buying brand new, just get the cheapest system available.

Now, on to speakers. I only know of Impreza for sure, but I'm fairly confident in saying that the front doors are 6.5" mountable, but they might have fitment issues. The depth of play you have to work with the stock mounting depth is roughly 1.5" - 2" at most. For the front speakers, you will have to make a speaker baffle.

As far as pulling the car apart. I can have my entire interior trim, and dash, apart in less than 20 minutes if I have all the right tools available, which is a #2 phillips head, a magnet in case you drop something, and a flathead #3 for some plastic pins.

Remember when you are taking the door panels off, have the windows all the way down, pull the electric controls off first, do NOT take out the center screw in the doorhandle bezel, and be careful pulling it apart.

Anyways, that is advice for the 02+ Imprezas, but being in 3 different Subarus over 5 years, they don't do much different between each vehicle, which makes it a payload much easier to work on and get parts for.

'05 Outback XT here, in general it's an easy car to work with but your source options are very limited b/c of the integrated HU. You can install a DIN in the cubby above with a $100 adapter but now you've got two stereos in your dash.

Lots of room in the back for gear, a convenient false floor with amp space, you can loose the spare & 'glass the whole thing for stealth subs if you want. JL makes a Stealthbox for the rear corner with a 10W6.

6.5's in all the doors are fine, max 3" depth total up front - Focal's are very tight. Don't use the factory tweeter placement high in the front doors, mount as coax - trust me on this one.

Rattles? Mine's developed a few but not bad. I'm not wild about the car for a few reasons unrelated to soundsystems.

02 WRX Wagon had 04 Legacy. Both very easy to work on. Nothing rattled on the Legacy. In my WRX the something in the dash rattles, but I think it is because the former owner lost some screws. 1 from the deck holder thing, the cupholder is sticky, and the clock pod has a busted pin. Even with that it only rattles if I turn it up really high. Taking the doors apart be carefull taking the handle trim off. It is really easy to break.

'93 legacy/'99 OB

easy to work on, easy to make sound good, very easy to get loud(if thats your thing)

lay as much sound deadner on the roof as possible..... it has major flex/rattle and sounds like *** inside and out.
