Sub wiring question.

I have two 4 ohm DVC subs, and I'm gonna wire them to my amp in a bridged configuration, so they get the full power my amp can put out....

Question is, I haven't done this before, soI wouldn't know how this will physically work out, I have a diagram, but I'm not sure how it will work...

I need a little help..

Here's the Diagram.

Now, with the two subs, there is a wire going to each positive terminal on the subs, and also going to the positive terminal on the amp. How do I achieve this, do I tie together the two speaker wires from both subs, and then plug them into the amp (or speaker terminal on the box, better yet), or something else? It's kinda confusing me.

Or do I like connect a speaker wire from the positive on one sub, to the positive on the other sub, and on the 2nd sub, I run a speaker wire from that positive to the amp?

And another question, the other two positive and negatives on the subs are just not used, and connected with a speaker wire to just cancel them out, right? Or do I not need to even connect them at all?

Okay - I'm going to stick with this and try to help you out if for no other reason than I like your username considering I carry a Ruger P97DC everywhere I go.

Let's start here - what kind of subs (brand and model # if you have them) do you have and what kind of amp will be driving them? (again - brand and model number if you got 'em, please)

Okay - what you're going to want to do to get the most usable output out of that amplifier is to run it as a single, mono bridged channel. Kenwood's given rating is 460w X 1 @ 4 Ohm mono bridged - this will give each of your Audiobahns 230w give or take.

First you'll want to wire the amp in mono bridged mode. You'll connect the cable you're going to use as positive speaker output to the positive terminal on the left channel output on the amp.

For the negative you'll connect that cable to the negative output of the right amp channel.

On the subs you'll want to use the second option on the linked page I posted above to achieve a 4 Ohm nominal load to be presented to the amplifier.

Your subwoofers will have a positive and a negative input for each coil. (I'll assume that you're able to work out which is which here) The positive output cable coming off of the amplifier will connect to the positive input on one of the coils of the first sub. You'll then run that same cable (or simply create a jumper using another piece of wire - doesn't matter which) to the positive input on one of the coils on the second sub.

Follow the same for the negative: Off of the amp connect to the negative input of the opposite coil than you connected the positive to in the first step. Meaning that you connected to the positive of one coil on the first sub first ~ connect the negative off of the amplifier to the negative input on the opposite coil. Then run that same negative (or jumper - see above) to the negative input on the unused coil on the second sub.

What you've got so far is a positive that runs to the positive input on two different voice coils on two different subs.

You also have a negative that runs to the negative input on the other two coils on the same subs.

On the first sub create a jumper with a piece of wire and connect the as yet unused negative and positive terminals (on the same sub) to each other. Do the same for the second sub.

Now that I've (hopefully) made it a bit clearer have a look at the diagram again and see if it makes any better sense. Any further questions I will try to answer them if I am able //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Good luck with it!

Thanks a lot, that's what I needed to know. I'm very excited, my box should arrive in the mail tomorrow, I'll go to Best Buy and get my wires after I get it, I'll come back and tell you how my first install went.

Read this and you will be a speaker wiring wizard-

Thanks you for the info Stones.

It went great, and it worked well on my first try, the only trouble was getting a 5 cube box in the back of my Alero...

I don't think it's coming back out to say the least...

But another thing is, is that I think something is wrong, because it seems like the two 12's I had in there before this, were much louder... They were crap subs too, with a max power handling capability of 550 watts, whereas these 2 15 can take 1000 a piece....

I think it may be the speaker terminals, I had to cut some of the wire strands to make it fit. Did that hurt my install???

This is what the speaker terminals look like

I cut off like 3/4ths of the wire, and put it through that hole, and kinda tied it around...

I'm thinking that that might be the problem. I was aldo thinking that I might be better off if I like try and wrap it around the whole thing like a coil, will that work?

Its a little ghetto but so long as the wires do not touch each other or the basket of the woofer it should work fine, maybe wrap some electrical tape around the connection to help protect against shorts.

As for the loudness, I can't say. Lots of different reasons for it.

Try living with it for a little while making ajustments to your amps xover settings as you go, see if you can tweak it a little better.
