sub system going into an explorer, budget: $500, any ideas?

my friend is looking for a new sub system since his amp died on him. he had two maw 15s hooked up to a cadence txa1000. now he is looking for something thats about as loud (doesnt have to be) but takes up less room in his explorer...

does anyone have any suggestions? his budget is 500 for a sub(s) and amp
