Sub Suggestions for Center Console?

I have a 2004 f250 superduty Single cab and I had planned an xfl 12 on my ab ph4000 in about 2.5cubes but I found a killer deal on 2 matchin oldschool PPI Sedona amps so I may be swayed to a low power sorta build. I have an Apa100ix for mids/highs and an Apa500ix(700rms) for the subs. I realize this is a drastic difference in power compared to my original plan but Im dying to install the PPIs.

So my substage would consist of 2x350rms @2ohms or 700x1 @4 and up to 2.5cubes. I had considered 2 soundqubed 8s(in sub classifieds)ported or maybe a couple 10s sealed? What would u guys suggest for daily listening? Lately im listening to a wide variety of music so Im not lookin for a lowend one note wonder. Thanks for any suggestions.

Or should I just put the ppis in the closet for a later day?

single cab truck - i built one out of a beater 90 chevy i ended up with a pair of 10s in a custom center consol - but i designed it to be in down fire position.

highly recomended to go this route - as speaker damage is almost fully eliminated - and you can still use the consol to set crap on top of when you need to.

my first box there was a single 10 sealed. next box was a pair of 10s ported. and truthfully in the small airspace of a single cab i enjoyed sealed better by alot.

my vote - pair of 10s sealed in downfire style box. ( if your good you should glass in some cup holders too )

ashamed to post this but it may help you avoid problems i ended up with

if i had it to do over again - id still go with the pair of 10s but just not port that box. id of made it a tad lower - so i could of made a nice size upolstred pad to go on top as a nice functional comfy arm rest. sound wise - bass is best from behind - or below = downfire is perfect - but i made the mistake of using port up top facing rear - so the port basicly fires at me = no no

higher frequencys should be pointed at your face - and lower frequencys should come from behind or below to sound "correct" to an sq type listner

Thanks @brian84corvette ; for ur reply and detailed thread link. I too thought 2 10s sealed might be the way to go to get a LESS peaky build considering my wide range in listening preferences lately. I had a console built yrs ago for a couple dd1508s and it was a lowend monster, no doubt, but it really lacked on anythin else, like random radio stations. I mean Decaf is great for demos but Im more of an 80s kind of fellow and if built for c/s music G&R tends to sound like ish=problem for me.

I dont have any modeling software so I may pay someone like @ramdesigns ; or @Buck ; to run a quick model because Id really like as flat of responce as possible(if I choose the e8s ported). Ive built lots of boxes myself but without the proper tools I tend to get really peaky builds and Im just to cheap to buy software so...

the thing about ported is = it needs to fire the port to bounce off of something to "couple" with the viechle

the down fire position directly couples the bass with the floor of the truck and functions fantastic in such a small environment ( single cab pickup ) but if you wanted to port you would have to design the port to fire against something like the side wall of the truck or against the rear of the cab - wich could limit your driver placment - in my opinion is best to push drivers as far to the cab wall as possible in the downfire position so that they are basicly under your seats - its good like that - but if the port faces up - and port wind comes in to contact with you before it bounces off something in the cab it will mostlikely lead to an un satisfactory result like i had with my box

So I guess the plan would be to downfire the subs and port against the rear wall of the cab or bite the bullit and go sealed? My main concern is would the 8s ported be as loud as 2 tens sealed? I know the tens have the cone area of 3 8s but would the efficiency of the two 8s ported win out over the two and is it possible to get the same wide band out of the 8s ported?

Update* So I built the Center Console box saturday. It Downfires the subs and ports out the back.

Im using the American Bass amp as it does seem to be hurting the subs. They havent even been smelly yet. So Ive adjusted the tune and settled on 39hz. I like this tune very well, Thank god for aero ports for the tunability! Until this afternoon I could only say that the box seemed to peak around 40hz but played well from 30-70 with authority. Someone linked a "How to" for win ISD on here and Im finally able to Model Subs myself!

So heres the goods. My subs are in 1.77 after displacement and it picks up -3db around 33hz, peaks just over +3db at 39-40hz and falls gently back to 0db at 60hz and flattens out till well over 100hz but Im crossing at 70ish so.

In the end Im very happy with these lil beast subs. They take the power well and havent givin me any trouble. They've taken absurd low tuning and well over rated power like champs. The box turned out great and stayed below my armrests. The responce is respectable, even with the peak, and Im happy. I cant tell u guys tens wouldnt have been louder but I can say the 8s are very good! Steerin wheel flex, FTW! Thanks for all that chimed in, Joseph..

Finished the console today. Im No professional so NO bashing please. The console is 1.77^3 after displacement, Subs downfire and port to rear of the cab @39hz. This is in my 2004 SuperDuty reg cab with Excursion bucket seat conversion and was ble to keep the box under the armrests! Still runnin the Ab ph4000 and the Subs love it. Coils still golden after a good weeks play time, Never even been smelly. Here are the pics.
