Sub Suggestions, 91 F-150

My buddy has a 91 F-150 Ext cab, without modification the box dont fix under the back seat, so he is thinking of pulling center counsol out and putting something there, He kind of wants to do a banpass box so subs are out of harms way, Any suggestions? He has small budget, like 300$ for subs/amp/box and is a total beginner, just wants a bit of bass...I suggested a Rockford Prime 500.1 Just because he only knows mainstream and off ebay you can pick them up for like 125$ or so...
