Sub making a rattling noise

I have searched the internet and have found no real solutions for my problem, so I was hoping you guys might have some suggestions. I recently bought two 2ohm alpine type s 10" subs, and am running them with a JL j2 1000.1 amp. After I broke them in on the first day (playing them no more than 3/4 their capacity) one of the subs will make a very loud rattling sound that I can tell is coming from the sub. This sound only happens when I play them loud enough but you can hear it well. I was wondering what could be causing this noise and any suggestions on making it go away.

sounds like you over powered the subsand possibly bottomed out the voice coil.those subs cant handle no where near the power of that jl 1000,read the rms on those subs ,i beleive they are only 200-300 watts rms if even that.

Each sub is 300 rms, and the amp is running 700 rms at 2 ohms. It is 1000 watts at 1 ohm.

It does sound like something may be hitting the cone, but is there any way to see if it is for sure blown? I looked at it the other day and saw no dimples on the cone and the voice coils look alright to me. I don't really know what a blown coil looks like though. Also it would help if someone could tell me what the tinsel is so that I can check that. Thanks guys.

push straight down on the cone and if it scratches its near its end. also it will smell bad. could be tinsel slap or the coil is messed up from where it bottomed out

pick up a DMM at Wal-Mart and test the subs ohm reading....

you cant see the coil without ripping the cone out

So I went and got a multimeter and hooked it up to the speaker terminals and it says there is a 1 ohm load. Is the sub blown or is there something else causing this noise? The other sub is now making the same sound but worse. I'm gonna end up buying some w3's if I can't figure this out but I don't really want to spend $300.
