Sub/Amp went poof

Well, my buddy has a 97 Jeep TJ. Two Pioneer IMPP 10s, and a Kenwood KAC-8103D. Earlier the subs were shutting off. So the wire was loose so we fixed it. He says he was driving, the lights would dim, and the sub would go all the way to the bottom, them pop up, and keep doing this, and then it almost caught on fire, smells like burnt electronics in his jeep.

The sub makes a grinding noise now when you move it and the amp doesn't turn on anymore. Theres no fuses poped, and he can't see anywhere where it short circuited.

But he did have the stereo going for a lil while with the jeep off, its only a 300W amp but I'm kinda thinking with such a small charging system (90 amp Nippondenso alternator) it may have gotten down under 12V and cooked the sub and amp..

What do you guys think happened?

the car was off. alt size doesnt mean ****. if he had it on long enough he could have drained the batt enough to do that.
Thats what I'm thinking.

We were sitting at a little spot where they land float planes by the water.. we might have been there for a few hours but we didn't have the stereo on the whole time.

But what I'm saying with the smaller alt it'd take longer for it to recharge the battery so the voltage is still down... am I right?

Also on the power wire off the front battery, it went from the bat> fuse block, and then the wire came out of the fuse block that went to the sub was sticking out, I don't know if it could have shorted there, it wasn't near anything to touch, but something may have happened.

I told him to fix it but he never did.

sounds like bad output from the amp\bad ground, making the amp freek out\clip major and yea...or bad signal to the amp..and yea in and out bad...long story short probly fried the coils.

no. 300w is only 21amps. that alt is fine.

i think he knows they are fried lol. trying to figure out "how"

might have just had the gain way to high and fried everything. check the amp and HU settings. look for bass boost, loud setting, gains. if any of those are turned way up it might have done it.

Haha the gain is probably all the way up

lolz, my current draw between my 2 amps is 200A, and I run a stock 90amp alt and a yellowtop under the hood. Factor in that I also added electric fans under the hood, and I'm putting a hell of a strain on my electrical system.

If ya be needin a new sub/amp combo I can set ya up.

Ehh my buddy is a cheap ass. He likes the 12" CVR my buddy has in his Cavalier with a Rox Box HO box, I think thats what its called..

I don't know what he is going to do next, but I hope he does it right, he didn't listen to me.
