Stupid newbee stuff you did...

First HU I installed in my Blazer I was too cheap to buy the wiring harness and decided to just cut all the wires. Tried cutting 1/3 of them at a time and shocked the shit out of me when I hit the power. Then it was a ***** to find the correct wires for everything since they weren't red, yellow, and black. I had to run a power for acc to the fuse box cause I couldn't get anything for acc power out of those wires.

First subs I had me and my grandpa built a box using 2x4's a bracing and a piece of plywood for the subs, free aired a set of kickers for about 2 months before they quit working.

I think the dumbest thing I ever did was work on my door speakers with them running...I pulled one out and just dropped the (live) wire back into the door (which was all metal). So when the two wires hit the bottom they started shorting out and I saw a bunch of sparks coming from inside the door, lol. What's funny is absolutely nothing was damaged...

two things

1. not disconnecting the ground from the battery

2. Listening to people on various sites tell me what speakers they liked and me taking their recommendation.

Example: Phoenix Gold RSD, terrible speakers, but everyone here only likes to spend $50 on mids and $2000 on 18" subs

I agree with # 2 lol. I'm upgrading to some CDT's because I find them horrible

1. When I was younger, thinking that watching my uncle install stuff was a good way to learn...umm..no. He used speaker wire, front to back, for power, no fuse, gains maxed, prefab bandpass boxes, cut harnesses....and lots more.

2. Cutting harnesses

3. Found 2 MTX 10's and built a sealed enclosure for them out of random wood, that really wasn't sealed. I actually put a hinge on one side, so i could undo one screw and open it easily for any "maintenance" that would occur in the future.

4.Hooking that same box up to my rear speaker wires and fooling my friends as well as myself into thinking I was the sh*t.

5. All Sony xplode $80 walmart special system.

Not neccessarily in that order. I swear I've come a long way haha

built a boxes for two 8" kickers outa 1/2 ply wood, couldnt cut a straight line if my life depended on it, covered gaps with carpet.......... sounded like shit. powered it with a 10 gauge thhn LOL

i once was testing out a amp with a industrial 12v forklift battery, used speakerwire to hook up power and ground (one run), then when was finished used a wire cutter to cut the wire while holding it in my hand....long story short; it took me a week to dig all the plastic out of my festering slice in my palm....

I've never made a newbie mistake:

unless you count the time I used an extension cord for power wire....

or the time I took the tweeters out of my home stereo and mounted them on my buddies dashboard with velcro....

or the time I finished an install and couldn't figure out why the amp wouldn't power on. I spent two days fiddling with EVERYTHING only to discover that I forgot to connect the remote wire behind the head unit...

And I did all of these things in spite of having an older brother that was great with car audio. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif Young people are stubborn and stupid. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

My old car had signs of where the velcro was for the tweeters in the dashboard //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif
