Stuff Got Jacked Yesterday

if someone ever yanks my deck, theyre gonna be sorry cause once you unplug the deck, you have to enter a pin number to make it work again

definatly call the insurance company and make sure that they will cover your stereo installation.

on top of that, request a document in writing that you have to fill out (might have to include pictures of said equipment) that if it gets stolen they will cover.

Well it finally happened, I got my stuff jacked on Tuesday night. I survived the first 4 years of college without a scratch then move into a nice apartment complex to finish my last term and in 3 weeks and they find me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
My car was parked in the reserved portion of parking complex right below my room. Weird thing is I never heard my alarm go off. I know it did because they cut the neg. battery cables. I work until 2 am on Tuesday night (I guess Wed. morning) so they might have already gotten to it before I got off work.

Anyways, they broke both passenger windows, destroyed half my center console, yanked my door panels off and then ripped off my back seat to see if there were subs in there (I had disconnected my trunk latch a long time ago). Fortunately, about a month ago, I started the process of reinstalling everything in my car. They only thing that was actually in my car was my Eclipse CD8445 deck. That's all they got, but it still sucks getting jacked. The deck won't even work for them (not that I want it to). I had the ESN activated and in their rush they cut the cable that connects the random box that was included with my deck. I honestly don't know what that thing does, but I imagine its important somehow.

I am in the process of filing a claim with the insurance. I didn't have any auto insurance to cover my stereo stuff, although when I talked with the agent today they said they are going to match my system. I don't know exactly what that means; I can only hope for the best. I did have comprehensive coverage though, so they will cover the windows, dash and back seat.

Even though there really wasn't anything I can do about this, I want to remind each and every one of you to protect your stuff. Getting your crap jacked sucks. Make sure you have a good alarm and don't do stupid stuff that will land your system in somebody else's ride.

your stereo is covered under your comp, if its permanantly attached or mounted to your vehicle then its covered under your comprehensive coverage. I'm an adjuster BTW

That sucks man- I feel for ya. Especially when it might have been someone you know. About a year ago my 2000 Yamaha R1 was stolen out of my apartment complex in broad daylight. I'm about 95% sure it was a buddy of mine too, and it happened 3 days after my insurance cancelled because they decided not to cover high performance bikes anymore. I had just gotten a quote from another insurance company and was ready to buy the policy too! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

i feel ya man, they broke into my accord this past monday night, and stole my kicker kx700.5 amp, they tried taking the box and sub, but i guess it was too big for them.

turns out my insurance forgot to mention that i needed special coverage for this type of incident, so i am pretty much screwed out of an amp, express track jacket, remote to my pioneer 590Ib, tool kit. and $75 to replace the window.

My insurance refused to cover my theft because it was not the stock stereo. What kind of bullshit comprehensive insurance is that?

That's really creepy. The same thing happened to me about a week ago. Some jackasses took my Eclipse 8445 but left the box that came with it. The box is the power supply for the motorized face plate which means the deck won't work without it.
It sucks that your stuff got jacked and that they ****ed up your car. I was lucky that whoever stole my headunit was clean and didn't break anything but my gas tank lever trying to open the hatch (mine is also disabled so they couldn't steal my bike and sub/amps.

Really crazy though.
Wow that is crazy. I wish the only thing they jacked up was my gas tank lever. I found out that the reason they broke 2 windows is because they screwed up my back passenger door handle somehow. The door won't unlock or open up. We will let the body shop deal with that one, because I don't have a clue how to fix it...

This goes to show that an alarm is only as good as the install, which is why I always recommend a backup battery, so that the alarm can still function, even with a severed battery cable. The brain should always be well-hidden, and a there should be several sirens, each hidden.
I haven't put an alarm on my van yet
I agree totally. The brain was well stashed deep in my dash. I didn't have any kind of battery backup and extra sirens. Looking back I definitely should have done that...

On that note though, after being jacked all I can say is get an alarm! Seriously, you should go do it tomorrow. I drive an 12 year old Toyota Corolla and it in no way screams I have stuff you can steal! I don't wish theft upon anybody and it makes me cringe when people have a system in their car without an alarm (especially now).
