Hello, I'm a student in a music technology class, and i have a project on car audio. My assignment is that i have to set up a BMW 1998 M3 with a completley new car audio system. It needs a sub, new speakers and at least 2 amplifiers. The budget is 1000 dollars. I'd like any suggestions to what i should use and where to start. Thanks a lot

well do you have a Head unit already. if not find something decent but cheap. you can visit ikesound.com and find some pretty sweet deals for speakers amps and subs. companies you might want to check out are elemental designs for their k series subs, see them at edesignaudio.com. also there is resonant engineering. take a look at the SE line of subs there. you will have to call in to order from them if you wish. you can also get some things off of ebay for cheap. so if you find something you like but its out of your price range, always check ebay. there are also some good deals in the classified section here.

You need to find out what space you have first... those Beemers are pretty small. Find out where the factory speakers fit and what size they are. Find out where people typically put a sub and amps in those cars. I suggest you first find a BMW forum and ask those questons before picking out any equipment.

This is solely an opinion from someone who knows quite a bit about audio, but there are many many possibilities out there....

I would look at making most components brand match to impress the teach:

Speakers: CDT Classics at thezeb.com - $150 shipped

Subwoofer: CDT Professional - $190 shipped (zeb.com)

or

Stereo Integrity Magnum D2 - $300 shipped

www.stereointegrity.com(currently on backorder)

Amplifiers: X-tant A4004T - $229 + shipping at http://www.sounddomain.com

X-tant X1001 (F.R.) - $349 + shipping at sounddomain

Totals: Well I came close....with the Magnum you are looking around $1050

with the CDT you are looking at $950

Both would make an impressive system.

5 1/4" in the kick panels with tweeters and mids in the doors. (unecessary). And 4" speakers in the rear.

i would suggest

alpine cda 9807 $200

CDT HD component set $200

1 12" Magnum D2 firing through the arm rest $300

Profile Ca400 for components $90

Profile Ca1200 - $200

that is 1000 bucks. and will give u a sweet setup.

that sounds like a neat class... why cant i have those kind of clases. just curious: do u get a better grade if u get a better system than others?

we have to have the best system for the price...but everybody else in my class are slackers...but who am i too say anything, you guys are doing it for me.
