Strictly Comp/SPL external aeroport enclosure for Hifonics XX-2412?

Hey guys, I'm just wondering what you guys would recommend as far as enclosure specs if I am doing a strictly SPL box for a competition. Will be powered by an Orion 2500D at .5 ohm with plenty of electrical to back it up and the enclosure will be in the TRUNK.

I've been crunching some numbers on WinISD and seeing what volume and port length I'll need with a single 4" or 6" aeroport. With a 6" aeroport it says port length needs to be 4.59." Will a 4" suffice? A 6" sounds like it's more on par with the standard of port area per cube. Of course, it will want to be tuned relatively high, so I was thinking maybe 50 or 55Hz. When doing so, the graphs on WinISD show a massive peak of +9.0-9.4dB near 64Hz. The gains quickly drop off once you start going past 2.5-2.75 cubes..

In that case, should I just do a 2.75 cube box net, with the aeroport mounted externally and cut to the length of 4.59" WinISD tells me? Or does port length start changing when going external? Any thoughts on 4" vs. 6" aerport?

I would do a box at 2.75-3 cubes with 130 -140 sq inches of port tuned to 38 or so. Slot Port design...

Depends on your vehicle and where it peaks at. Also, depending on the sub and how much power it can mechanically handle, you'll want to go with a smaller box(if it can't handle the 2500d in a normal sized box).

Oh really? I see. I guess I'm going about this the wrong way.

Vehicle always seems to peak at 44-45Hz so tuning to 38 might just be spot on. Also, just wondering, why so much port area?

Vehicle seems to peak at around 44-45Hz. I do want to go down in size on the enclosure to increase power handling capabilities, I don't think the woofer if going to like that much power in a ~3cube enclosure.

What do you figure I should shoot for on enclosure specs?

And slot > aero in this case?

Tuning at 40hz should be right on.

I do want to go down in size on the enclosure to increase power handling capabilities, I don't think the woofer if going to like that much power in a ~3cube enclosure.

I'd say try out a 2.5ft^3 box first. If you can reach mechanical limits then bring the box size down.

2.5ft^3 at 40hz is what I would do. Aeros are king if you're wanting to experiment with different tunings with the same box. Building a brand new box every time would get time consuming and expensive. Either do a single 6" aero or a couple of 4"ers.
