strange noise

so when im running my Alpine type x 10 real loud, (around like 900w) on certain songs it will get this clicking noise kind of when it hits a real big note. its almost like the cone is hitting itself or something. like its vibrating its self so much its making a noise. doesnt anyone have a clue what im talking about? or what i can do about it? any help would be greatly apreciated.

yea i was thinking clipping, is that what it sounds like? cause that could very well be it. it happends after along section of real power ******* notes and i wouldnt be surprised if my car just wasnt giving enough juice. i was thinking about a capacitor that would help right?

its in a sealed box and i belive my amp has a subsonic but i havent touched it. how would that effect it?

is there anything i could do if it is bottoming out besides turning it down?

alright thank you man. what exactly does that acutally control? im still learning these things, altho i'd like to htink i know something at this point.

It sets the lowest notes your sub will hit. If you turn it on and set it to 25hz, for example, if will not send 25hz notes or lower to your woofer.

The lower notes are the ones that get the sub moving the most and thus can cause the most damage.

u cant push more than an amp can handle. if an amp puts out 500 watts, u cant push it past 500 watt, theoretically. his amp could be pushing the subwoofer to hard, hence maybe tearing the spider, which could lead to metal banging noises. but torn spiders usually end all play at all. anything could be happening.

u mean max or rms, because an amp rated at 500w rms and 1000w peak can push that 1000 for a brief moment before it kills itself.so if he has a sub at 500w rms and amp at 500w rms and hes got say the bass boost up as well as the gain it could cause it to clip, correct me if im wrong i very well could be. im not trying to start a fight just help a car audio member out.

i didnt say rms, or max. did i. why would u even look at max ratings? theyre worthless. even RMS ratings are usually a bit underrated in alot of companies. i said what i said, so dont argue with me. kthx also your talking about hearing it clip, not clipping in general.
