Strange amp problem PA

Hello all, im new here but not new to audio. I am running a PA PS1-4000d. I dont care about your opinion on PA, It puts out the power i need and was within budget. anyways, i am running it at 4ohm right now so 1200 watts rms. which should be around the 67v AC mark for the gain. When i set my gain, it adjust as normal till just passed half. then it stops adjusting the voltage. so with the gain set at just passed half the voltage is 65v AC. if i move the gain more it will not adjust to a higher voltage. it remains at around 65-66v AC. its like there is a dead spot on the gain knob. i have it set to 65 flat right now. the amp is new, i dont understand this isnt the first time ive done this. but im not pro, i am still practicing my NoobiX cube......

thanx for any replies

i could care less about the amp frying. they are cheap, and i got my eye on a collosus (sp?). tone was a 50hz -6db tone. lol its PA so ya its over rated its rated at 4k but at 1ohm she puts out around 2200-2400rms. i am running it at 4ohm so its giving around 1200rms to my driver. the problem is the gain knob still has alot more to go movement wise. but does not affect the AC voltage output?? like i said strange problem.......

Your amp has 4x30's. It's not going to do much more than 1200w at min impedance - 1400-1500w at best.

What you're seeing is the amp reach it's maximum unclipped output. From that point voltage stops increasing and the sine wave starts looking like a square wave. Power ouput (and current into the load) continues to increase, but voltage does not. Operating the amp in that range is how speakers are damaged.

hmmm, ya your right. i guess looking up the rms numbers on multiple sites, asking multiple questions about the power output to people that have the same amp. you know just doing research in general has proven me wrong....... perhaps i will get it clamped to see.... either way its a alright power range for now. its going to an 12.2 orion HCCA. thanks for that info in your second paragraph. seems to make sense. can anyone else chime in to confirm this? not trying to say you don't know what your talking about, just like to hear opinions..... kinda like the amp..............
