Is there anywhere that I can find out how many watts a stock deck in a 1999 Toyota Tacoma puts out? I want to know because I have some brand new 6.5" Type-S just sittin around that I would like to put in the back, but if the deck doesn't put out a decent amout of wattage then I won't bother.

Thanks,

IMO I would just put them in. I think stock systems put out some thing like 5rms a channel, but after market speakers will bring out more detail and ad more bass than the factory speakers. And being a newwer truck I imagine u will hold on to it for a little bit and later down the road if u get more $$ u can ad an after market CD deck.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

I don't want to get a new HU. It's actually not my car, it my dads. I just have this set of speakers laying around that I have no use for them. Anyway I just wanted to be nice and put them in his truck to give him a better sounding system. So I just want to know if I can put the type-s speakers in the truck without any problems.

Thanks,

I would not do it. The difference in the ohms in the speakers would probobly cause you current hu to overheat. Becasue it is a factory HU it probobly would not be able to handle the ohm difference.

now the question is, were hte speakers wired directly to the HU? are they wired in parallel somewhere down the line?

most stock headunits will not have a problem running a 4 ohm set of speakers..

Good point. If there's 2 speakers in each channel, that'd be 4 ohms total. If not, I'd be leary of it. If the factory unit would run 4 ohms, they'd have put 4 ohm speakers in there.
