Stock Sound Deadening?

Hey guys, I was investigating underneath my door panels in my 2002 Dodge Stratus and noticed that it already had some pretty thick stuff, which I'm assuming is sound deadening, applied to the entire panel. It's held on there by some pretty heavy duty adhesive.

Would replacing this with some AudioTechnix be worth the effort?

That's the vapor barrier. I would try to take it off and handle it carefully so you can put it back on. If you have big holes in the metal behind that you would be better off hanging CCF and MLV over the entire inside of the door right behind the panel. This is the Sound Deadener Showdown method that I've used with great results.

ii would try to go over it with more deadner

Thats not deadner, just the water barier like previously stated. Deadener sticks to the metal all over not just on the edges like that

Ahhh I see. It looked like it was stuck on throughout the entire panel, but you're right - it's just on the edges. Kind of wary of removing this, don't want to cause some irreversible damage. Generally safe to remove? And how would I stick it back on after I'm done?

It's butyl rubber adhesive holding it on. You can scrape it off with a putty knife. If you don't get a bunch of crap stuck to it it should stick back on the door. You might need to heat it up a little bit.
