stinger voltmeter

just i bought a voltmeter last week and am bored so im gonna go install it should i hook it to the amp or battery..... im thinkin the amp (most accurate reading at what its drawing) but i got a line driver coming and was goona hook that up straight into the amp terminals for easy install is this a bad idea? hooking the line driver into the terminals or should i run seperate power wire for it and wire my voltmeter into the terminals?

ya i have mine temporarily hooked up to my amp until i run the wires to my battery and it pretty much reads the same as the battery while i measured with a DMM. i may just keep it at the amp. as long as i know what the voltage getting to the amp. i just like to judge the drop so i can see approx where im at.
