Stiffening Capacitor question......

i do believe that i have found the culprit.... i've checked the BIG 3, and found that the grounding wires are no more than a size 8 gauge (i believe) either 6 or 8 but i'm pretty sure it's 8. that would cause the symptoms eh? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

before you go messing with the ground under your hood(unless ur comfortable messing around under your hood it cant hurt i guess) make sure ur ground from your amp to your chassis is good. like everyone said with an alt that powerful you shouldnt have any issues with 500 watts.

Most of the time, yes, the engie block provides the ground for the alt. The block is usually grounded with 2 or 3 braided straps to the frame. I usually supplement this with a nice fat ground straight to the battery from the block. 1/0 wire isn't needed in you case because of the amount of power that you're working with. If you have no plans to upgrade significantly, I would just go with 4 ga.

Wonderful! i need to wait until later on this week, more than likely next week.... the wife runs the bills so........ what she says goes...... if anybody says otherwise.... i'll show you a bear that does not sh*t in the woods //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif :D //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

however i will post as soon as i am finished with the results

caps whont help so much with light dimming. do the big three it's cheaper and more effective.

big three's def cheaper and possibly better but saying caps wont help is wrong ive used a cap in a saturn to stop lights from dimming and it worked completly (granted it was only a 300w amp but it did work)

OK PPL!!! i have changed my wires coinciding with the "BIG 3", i even replaced the positive wire from the alt. to the battery and the positive wire from the battery to the fuse panel distribution block (probably overkill) but what the hell.... right! right.

and the big news is..... it fixed the problem with out a hitch, and guess what.... no capacitor! who would have guessed?! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

thank you ALL for your help and knowledge!!
