Stetsom amps for SQ

A lot of people have been focusing on using the Stetsom Amps at 16V+. The ones that they seem to be talking about running at 16V are the 7K2 & 10K.

Even though all of their digital amplifiers are built to run on 10-15V excluding the 10K which can be run up to 18V.

I do not know many SQ guys that are running 7200Wrms+ on just the sub channels alone.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think that the 1K6, 2k5, and 4k2 are the amplifiers that would be used by SQ individuals especially if you need power and space is limited.

My question is what other commonly used amps in SQ give you 1600Wrms at 2 ohms, 2500Wrms at 2 ohms, or 4200Wrms at 2 ohms respectively and have a small footprint (less then 3" x 11" x 13" )?

Who uses 1600-4200rms for "sq"?

Maybe Im clueless in what "sq" really means if you need 1600rms or more to achieve it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

I think that there are individuals who run subwoofers in sq competitions that would require between 1600-4200rms, now weather or not they give their subs the recommend rms depends on the individual and the car.

The only reason I could see for using one in an SQ environment would be in IASCA if you're judged based on SPL output along with the regular SQ portion.

Otherwise, I don't see a use for them in an SQ install. You simply don't want that much power.

The fans on the Stetsoms run pretty hard and I believe that on the older amps there wasn't any subsonic filters which would help with ported boxes. However, I think my system sounds very good, once the volumes up a little it drowns out the sound of the fan.

Well in MECA, Rick Washbaugh is running multiple Zapco amps, their monoblocks and RE MTs, yet still does SQ. I think the key behind it is having a setup that is very flexible and being able to go from SQ to SPL quickly. Btw, he is 150s at the head in M1.

Substage is supposed to blend in nicely with the frontstage in an sq system so a ton of power would be overkill....I'm more into LSQ because I just need to get loud sometimes.

I ran an 18" MT sealed and it sounded like garbage. I guess install is what seperates the competitors from guys like me...lol

Well you can always turn it off. I mean he could have the MTs hooked up for SPL and when he needs to set up his car for SQ he might have a single 10 or something in there somewhere. I mean I don't know the entire ins and outs of his system, I am just making the point that you can have that much power on tap and still be able to be competitive in SQ.

If they're turned off for the SQ portion of judging, how again are they useful in that? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif See where I'm going with this? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I realize there are people who want to win "Best of Best of Show" at every event or are in IASCA and still have a need for high SPL. But that's about all it'd be useful for in that situation...and it's not helping the accuracy of the SQ side any, it's just a points earner for the competitor.

I was just wondering if the available power in the amps would work well for a sq setup, nothing more and nothing less but it appears to me that this site is more geared toward spl.

The reason that I asked is that there are few sq companies with subs that handle 1000+Wrms FOCAL, Morel, Bravox, and probably others.

So if you don't turn it off for your sq competitions and are able to tune your system to blend with the bass at moderate levels then it would work.
