Stetsom 4k2d: TL'd and Clamped!

care to meter at other frequencies to see what kind of numbers you can do across the whole spectrum? Maybe do every 5hz..25-55 or something like that? I've always wanted a TL so I could just to extensive tests like that.

I would love to man, and I would have if time had permitted me too. The TL is on it's way back to Kman, so.....

Maybe he'll let me use it again sometime //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Once again, I don't think you could say he is set up for spl with a sealed box;)
Uh, I don't necessarily consider four 12" subwoofers and 4,000 watts RMS to be SQ either. I could be wrong, but my gut instinct tells me that the OP's subs are very well pronounced and do more than just "blend in" as they would in a true SQ setup //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Very nice and glad to see your results. When you have time do a power test at 40 and 45hz where a lot of bass is hit at and you'll see what kind of power you'll be getting when hitting those frequencies. Impedance should be lower at those frequencies and should get more power.

And that's one thing that is amazing about the new amps is how cool they run. You don't have to take my word for it but I've had a 2k5d and 4k2d and I currently have the 4k2d under a piece of carpet so they won't get scratched but open air on the sides and in 80+ degree Arizona heat ran as loud as the little 12 would take for over an hour and I was curious how warm amp was and even with not ideal ventilation it was just warm not hot. I wish other owners could post on here but seems like most people that buy don't go on forums much.

Great test though.

Did I say true SQ? nope, I don't think so. but it is painfully obvious he isn't trying for SPL, his SPL could be spanked with 1-15", his power and a dumb *** installing it. I know for a fact he isn't a dumb ***, so you put 2 and 2 together, Sherlock:rolleyes:

yea i love my 4k2d. wont go back to any other brand. mine takes it like a champ and I have never seen it break a sweat. i used to a have a kicker zx2500.1 and was doing a 145.1 and now im doing 146.8 on music with the 4k2d, not a test tone. My kicker would get pretty HOT and the stetsom, i'm taking a ball park guess that it get up to 89 degrees after 30+ minutes of use. Don't be fooled by the size. "big this do come in small packages".

Some cars are louder sealed, or do the same score sealed.
I think my car may fall into this catagory. I had two RD Alpha 10s" in a ported box before this and I think they were just as loud and got way lower than the 12s" do.

I think I saw your test on SMD. Nice results on your end to, buddy. I played mine last night for about 35-40 min. to see how hot I could get it. I didn't play it full tilt. It was about 3 clicks on volume from it though. It got pretty warm, but no where near what one would call hot.

The 5750 (no I'm not bashing it) would literally burn you after an hour or so of play. I'm being serious too. It never shut or let me down, but it did get hot enough to give you at least 1st degrees.

I do //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Just as the topic has been bantered back and forth for pages and pages; SQ is subjective. No, I don't have a 300 watt sub in a small sealed box, but that doesn't mean I'm going for just loudness either. My idea of SQ, as far as a substage goes, is how high you have the sub control on //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Will do. Thanks again for all the help Jeff!

Sometimes I can be a dumb *** man. It's all voluntary consciousness though.

Regardless, of the setup being SQ, SPL, or SQL, this is actually good news. I was considering the 2,000 watt Stetsom because I want to run 1,000 - 1,500 watts RMS to my Digital Designs 1508s. I don't want an amp that is only good for burps but sounds like *** on music. For some reason I was thinking that Stetsom would suffer from brutal power supply switching making is sound weird similar to the MMATS Class D amps.

Same score with a sealed and ported box?
I think I left some things out of my post if you were talking to me. But in my car with the two Alpha 10s" it was as loud as the Sonances are. They got lower that's for sure. Although I think it's hard to compare power for power and cone are to cone area. Ported and sealed not so much, but trunk cars we all know are "special" in their restrictions so it's a tough call.

I don't hear anything from a switching in the power supply. I will admit though, that the fans are very audible for about the first 45 seconds or so, then it goes away and it's like they're not even there.

Yes both at 2 ohms, but like I said in my first post, you can't compare the Stetsom to the 5750. The Stetsom puts out 1000 more watts than the RD did @ 2 ohms.

I think most of the Stetsoms are 2 ohm amps, and most suggest they not be run any lower. At least that's what I've gathered.

Both ran at 2 ohms ? The Stetsoms run some high voltage inside for sure, they seem to like the higher impedance loads.
Isn't high voltage Class D a totally different design from most of the 1 ohm, high current Class D amps? My jaw hit the floor when I saw the specs on the Stetsom's transistors:eek:
