i had this old kenwood kak 606 an it had a switch that bassicly cut out all the bass (i was thinking it would be perfect for my door speakers) my question is what are those type of amps called

It's called an amplifier. Full range. 4-channel. There are different ways to describe it and they all mean the same thing when taken in context. The switch you're talking about is called a high pass filter. It's very common.
