I'm installing an ATOTO stereo that includes a backup camera and the wiring for the camera has me a little frazzled. In order to make the camera continuous rear view, I have to connect to to auxiliary power source on the harness. That appears to be the same wire as main power source. The main power source wire on the car connected harness already will need to be joined to the harness that connects to the receiver with a butt connector. Should I get a 3-way connector so I can connect both the receiver and the camera to the power? Thanks. I have no idea what I am talking about.

Can you Post a Link of the Unit Model # ? What vehicle? Do you have an aftermarket wiring harness or did i miss that, or is it an existing harness?

So I WOULD THINK: that normally it would work when your vehicle goes into reverse, WHEN IT IS triggered by a backup light voltage signal or some other signal wire that it says to connect to. If you want it full time, then you just need to connect it to a full time voltage wire.

thanks I may give up on this plan as It sounds more annoying wiring to the brake light.

If you wire it to the brake light, it would come on when the brakes did. If you want it on all the time, it should be as easy as wiring it to any accessory circuit. That shouldn't be a power wire, it should be just a simple switch wire, so anything you can get accessory voltage should work.

I would question why you want to do this though. My guess is this function supercedes (/takes over) any function you would have on your head unit. Meaning if you wire that to full time, then it's going to stay on the camera. I would try connecting it how it should be, and put it in reverse. See if you are able to get it out of camera when the camera is on before you make it permanent.

If it does come out, then what's the point of this? If this is supposed to basically act as a rear mounted dash camera, there are cameras that already do this. I would also want to know if it has a remote or steering wheel controls, (that can function while in camera mode), so you could at least leave it on. I think it would be a giant hassle, but if it stays on the head unit, you could also just wire in a switch to turn it off and on. Wire that trigger wire to a switch next to the head unit to where you can get to it easily. It would always be on camera, but you could turn it off when you need to change something on the head unit. Unless you put it on one radio station and leave it, or USB and just let it go, this is a hassle.

It seems like you're looking for a cheap option, but there's really no way to make the hassle worth it. You can buy what you're wanting this to do, separately.

The camera included in the kit comes with an extra power cable for continuous rear view. I thought I might like the added functionality but actually I don't see the point of it.

Sorry man.. Been on an emergency call @work.. I have a rearview camera that I wired up to use as a rearview/rear Mirror option as ive sealed up my rear windows that I have a 7inch screen. To power it up.. I ran it to my HU On/Off wiring and grounded on its own with the Video Cable to the 7inchscreen. When I turn on the HU, the power turns on for the screen, and I have full access to view the rear camera, without interrupting the HU function. Pretty simple wiring as the Camera has Power, ground and Video cable, screen has power and ground. Can be wired to Aux, or the HU supply @ the HU or the Fuse panel.A screen can be found failrly cheap off Amazon or even Ebay. Not sure what exactly you are really looking to do. Its 12v, so supply/on/off and and ground and Vid cable to AV1, or AV2 of whichever you choose. There really isnt much to it. same concept as Home Vid serv. Cameras 115v

I considered doing this several years ago but, changed my mind. My rear-view mirror works fine for normal driving situations. The camera is great for backing up situations.

Right!! So when I sealed up my rear windows, all I have left are the two sideview mirrors. the rearview camera on works great to see behind me while driving. It can be a bit annoying at night time though when the screen is a bit bright, but its easy to cover it and drive and remove a cover or a tee shirt that I used before I found a way to make a face cover out of ABS plastic and some Extreme velcro. Ill wire it back to Accessory later on to power up

thanks but I already decided to use it as a back-up camera and install it later.
