when i was talking to one of the general managers right before he hired me, he based my pay on how much i made at my prior job. i made $8 before, so he started me at $8.25.

well, when the manager interviews you ,just tell him you want to make more than him. by the way i was making 8.50 and hour plus 55% intall quota over 7 years ago whn i worked there.

I work tech support (help desk) for the State Park Service, contracted through DNR. I only make $10.20 an hour. 20 cents was my yearly raise. Least I got benefits. We don't have a Best Buy. Fast food joints start at a little under 6. Wall-Mart is around $7.25 I think. My area has an extremely low cost of living. You can buy an older 3 bedroom house in a a rural area for around 35k. I would try to maintain at least the rate from your last job. I usually state what I was making previously under your former employment section, and state that as your minimum starting rate.

At least these smart *** kids can spell. It probably allows them to have upward mobility in their employment opportunities, unlike you who has had the same shit job for an extended period of time.

To honestly answer the question at hand...it depends on where you're at. I know that people in Battle Creek (my hometown) start out at less than those doing the same job in East Lansing (where I'm at school). Now factor in the much larger difference in living costs between states, and nobody here can tell you an exact figure.

From what I've heard though, a Best Buy sales job usually starts $1.50 or $2 over minimum wage (we used to be at $5.25, and people were starting around $7.00...not sure what's happened since our wage increase though).
