Starting Over, Input Plz

Here's the speaker set up i want to run in my hatchback.

i want to build a box that goes all the way across the "trunk" right behind the back seat, like with one 8" Assassin in the middle and maybe some 6 x 9's or 6.5" speakers one on either side of it

then there would just be the 5.25" in the doors as normal.

What kind of amp would i want to run all that?

Would i get a dual channel and have the 5.25's and the 6.5's be on one channel and the sub be on another?

or get a mono for the sub, and a dual channel to split the 5.25's and the 6.5's?

i would enjoy keeping the price of the amps under 150, 200 dollars at the most maybe, that would be nice

my goal is sound quality.

Any suggestions are awesome, including any suggestions on altering my set up/what you would do instead maybe

thanks...

skip the 6x9's or what ever in the back.. would totally kill your imaging/staging.

Just do a good set of comps up front and a single 8" on sub duty, powered by a single 4 channel amp.

You could use a xenon 100.4 to save money.. 200 watts for a single asassin and 100Watts per side for comps.

$215

If you are really interested in SQ, a set of compants up front and a single 8 (or even two) would be better.

And quit starting new threads.. keep it all in one topic lol.

if i made one box, they'd still be seperated, so it'd basically be like a sub with two 6 x 9's in three boxes, but all put together type thing, i just think it'd look cool to have that box go all the way across as opposed to just having a sub back there in the middle

sorry you'll think this is a stupid question but what are "compant speakers"?

the problem with that setup is that there would still be the 6.5 speakers that wouldn't be amplified, idk whether they're in the trunk or the passenger seat, it's a hatchback i'm about to buy. so what would you propose then?

ha, i'll eep in mind about starting over

comps or components are where there is a midrange/midbass speaker and a tweeter.. they are seperate and have a seperate crossover.

Coaxials are where the mid and the tweeter are all in one (like most 6x9s)

here is a pic of some comps (the ones i have actually //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif )

If you are going for sound quality you dont really want or need rear speakers. The majority of SQ systems (except maybe 5.1 set ups) dont have any rear speakers. All you need for a simple, but great sounding system, geared toward SQ is a set of comps up front and then a sub.

I have a hatchback and thats what i have. A set of comps up front and a single 8" for sub duty. Powered by a single amp. You cant hear it from a block away or anything, but it sounds amazing when your inside the car.. to me thats what matters.

i agree, so do you even have the other speakers in there? or did you take them out because all they're doing are taking up power

what kind of amp, sub, and comp speakers do you have?

oh and what kind of box do you have for your 8"

I left all the stock speakers in place and used kick pods for my comps. I have phoenix gold ti elite comps, and a single soundsplinter rli 8" in my hatchback. I have a phoenix gold xenon 200.4 amp powering both the comps and the sub. The comps get about 200+ each and the sub gets 400+. None of the stock speakers are getting power, but they are all still in for when i want to take my stuff out and trade the car in.

Its certainly not the loudest system in the world, and its not a competition quality system, but it sounds pretty good to me. Its a good balanced system and didn't cost a ton comparatively..

so would it really be worth it to cheap out and only get the 100.4 phoenix amp instead of the 200.4?

my plan was to just have the sub box be like right in the middle, with the face facing slightly up towards the glass of the hatch, pro's/cons versus any other way?

Also, what if i got a mono 400 watt for the sub

and then a dual channel 400 watt for the comps?

what brand of amps are trusted?

would i be able to get away with more sound for cheaper by going that route? because as soon as you get into 4 channel amps the price is over 200 bucks. Would it even save any money to get two different amps like maybe

this for sub

and maybe this for comps?

or something like that, how much does brand play into it for you guys? or do all amps do the same thing and it's what's on the speaker end that counts?

i would stay far, far, far away from those two amps.

I can understand your wanting to save some money... but buying total crap that you will end up replacing eventually doesn't really save you any money.

Brand in car audio is pretty important.. not that it can be rated like best to worst.. but you definitely want to stick with name brand stuff thats been around.. stay far far far away from the flea market crap like what you posted.

You could do separate amps, like this one for comps,

http://cgi.ebay.com/PHOENIX-GOLD-XENON-X100-2-CAR-AUDIO-AMP-AMPLIFIER-NEW_W0QQitemZ140029110338QQihZ004QQcategoryZ79820QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and this for sub duty

http://cgi.ebay.com/PHOENIX-GOLD-XENON-X400-1-400W-MONOBLOCK-AMPLIFIER-NEW_W0QQitemZ140029564344QQihZ004QQcategoryZ18797QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

But really it wouldn't save your any money over just getting a X200.4

You certainly dont have to go with PG, i just like them.. so thats what i run.. plus they can be had pretty cheap. Just remember.. you get what you pay for.. a .99 cent amp is going to be garbage.
