I go to a shop occasionally and their new installer/box builder is whack. He'll tune a box with an 18 at 44 hz with a SMALL *** port and charge you $300 without carpet. They want $450 for an ssi treo 18" which isnt too bad, but i can get it for $280 from another dealer. So i started handing out my name and number and prices on different boxes and some subs/amps and people are calling.

I charge a lot less... and that's for shipped. Does he kerf? Or fill the inside with resin or anything special?

Im not into the kerf bandwagon, yea it looks cool but thats about it.

Are you guys who are kerfing actually correctly calculating tuning with the kerf??

I do when I design it... but it only slightly changes the tuning. Most people just use a 3" kerf. (Folds 90* in 3") In that case, it doesn't change port tuning all that much.

But, I guess you're too "cool" to admit that.

Kerfing looks cool, and it helps prevent port noise.

I mean, it's not a must. But, like I said, looks cool.

And Kerfing isn't really a bandwagon thing. A lot of people can't do it / don't know how to, so they don't. The people that do like to do it for that extra special touch.

He posted pictures in another thread, I forget. It was real nice work. A lot of routing and attention to detail. But he blocked out his Mom's / Grandmother's / Wife's face.
