ok, so im about to get a bonus at work and im thinking about re-doing my stock system. i have a 03 VW beetle with the monsoon system and it sounds great already untill you get up in the volume lvl. only then does it sound bad. too much trebble and distorted.

i have a JL 10W0V2 as a sub now and the midbass drivers have been replaced with a set of soundstream 6.5s, not sure on the specs, a friend gave them to me.

now, id like to get an amp that can run the whole system to replace the factory amp. but im getting an amp for my sub in a few days(hopefully) so idk.

now on to the questions. i like my current sub but i kno there is better out there. however im kinda tight on space in the trunk and i actually use my trunk. im debating on going to a 12 inch sub in a ported box but then my trunk will be basicly usless. any sugestions? i kno some companies make "slimline" woofers that need less cubic feet but do the perform as well as the deeper subs? eh, im definantly new to this feild in terms of actual componant chioce.

i just found this thread while looking for some ideas about changing the speakers in my bug (i also have a monsoon system), and i have some ideas about your subwoofer.

how much power are you looking to use? how much do you want to spend? do you want major spl, or just some bumping? from what i've heard and read, the shallow-mount will work well enough, but they won't give you the vibrating chair like a larger woofer and box will.

depending on how much you use your trunk, you may want to consider a sealed box, especially since your woofer can handle

if you want more sound, the ported would be a good idea, and you would only need about 14" cubed, half of your trunk. if you aren't trying for spl and pain, you might want to consider a smaller woofer in a ported box.

another great idea is deadening material around your door and rear speakers, it is amazing in that car! if you do that, replace those factory speakers in the back, they're poo
