SSA Icon Question

I didn't post this in the other thread because I mean no disrespect. So I didn't want to dump on their thread.

Is it just me or were others of you expecting this sub to end up being cheaper than it is? I mean, I haven't heard one so I'm not saying its overpriced or not worth it. Just from the posted specs I expected it to be a little cheaper.

Let me simplify it for alot of you on here, it has SSD specs and a Q price.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I think thats what is throwing me off. The low rms rating.

If it was 1200 I would be like OMG golly jeepers!!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif

Keep in mind a tri stack motor, and is a completely different woofer than a Q or SSD.

The Q and SSD have double stack.

A little less throw than a Q though.

I would expect it to be a very nice sounding woofer, that can get loud, if coaxed.

Haha, it makes everyone horny when a sub is rated for 1kw or whatever, I like find a sub that has a lower RMS rating.

It doesn't mean much anyways, generally subs can take more than that, but why would you want a sub that can handle all kinds of power anyways?

Can handle, or NEEDS all kind of power? The wording makes it 2 totally different questions- Their are several reasons to have a high power handeling on a woofer- take more abuse, generally (although not always) the ability to OVERALL get louder... and alot of people (especially younger people) like to brag about having "2k watts" on a sub... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Hey, I like how you put that

Can vs Need.

I'm not welfare for subwoofers.

Haha, I don't like subs that need.

Then there are others who have multiple drivers of mismatched sizes on an amp that isn't really adequate for even half of them! *squints at your signature and chuckles about the 'Tard contained within*

I agree totally.. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif and for the record- i like subs that handle tons of power //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I would love to give the new Icon (or Icons) a try but they aren't a particularly good match for my monoblock and I do not see myself buying a different amp just to see if I might like what they have to offer.

I have no doubts that they are a more than solid driver but they just aren't tailored for the setup I'm running and my budget doesn't allow for too much change just for experimentation //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
