Srx12 vs e12

Was thinking of trying to do a single 12 setup instead of 2 10's to try ang get the best bang for my buck. I've got at most 120 to spend including shipping. Was looking for something on classifieds, but if I don't find something on there I was looking for some new subs in that price range. I have been out of car audio a few years now and really don't know who the best dealers and brands really are anymore but I was reminded of sundown which I owned before and loved and also re which were just getting big when I kinda got out. Well they each kinda have their entry lvl subs around same cost and was looking on opinions on how they compare. The re srx and the sundown e12. Price difference is only 9 dollars so not a big jump. But these 2 were the first that I really have looked at.

Basically anyone know how well these do? It will be going in my gti that I'm customizing and the box should be around 2.79 according to the Rockford box spec page and it will be a sealed box. If anyone has any other ideas go ahead and shootem out doesn't bother me. I listen to a lot of rock, rap, and have recently started to really get into some dubstep. Sorry that this is a big jumbled mess of a post I'm posting from my old p.o.s. iPod touch so bare with me. Thanks for all the help.

i would get the sundown e 12 put it in a 2.2cubics foot ported box tuned to the mid to low 30z /thread

2.79cubes sealed is entirely to big, if you want to give up that much room ported will work much better, but for sealed i would shoot for 1.25-1.5cubes

The Box size isn't really able to change. Here is a look at what it needs to be like. The flat part is where the sub is going. I am fitting this to the car itself and I am trying to make it as flush and perfect as possible. If needed I can make it a ported enclosure I guess I was just trying not to have to make a port because this is my first box build that's more than a complete square. but the dimensions of this box can not be changed at all or it wont fit right.

Other than the box why did you choose the sundown? Do you have any experience with either or?

edit: picture turned out hard to read but heres dimensions for the REAUDIO.com box calculator

Box Width: 38 Box Height: 18 Top Box Depth: 5 Bottom Box Depth: 14 wood thickness .75

if you make it 2.79 for one 12 it will more than likely cause damage to the sub you can use a partition board to cut down the internal airspace though.

and the re calculator isnt accurate

and i picked sundown due to the great customer service they have, the fact that it isnt made in china like re its made in korea much better quality, and because i had a pair of sundown z12s in my chevy cruze before i wreck it and they where just amazing.

jacob is an easy guy to get along with and is very helpful when ever he can be.

im prolly gonna go with a pair of e10s in my versa if sundown ever come out with a small 800-1000w mono again.

Thanks that makes it a lot more helpful. I know the box calculator is not that accurate still got to add in the room for the sub and everything else, but from what it sounds it will still be a bit too big. I actually got the 2.79 from the RF website. I took some more measurements and the only thing I could change would be the depth and that would drop it down to 2.44 cubic which is still big for sealed. i could add a port but I would want to keep it in the low 30hz because I am really wanting to keep as much SQ as I can get from this setup. The mounting depth may also play a problem with it then with changing the depth because its going to be shaped like an opposite wedge shape instead of the speaker going on the slant its actually going to be going on flat side.

Considered a 15? A low powered 15" run well in 2.79 sealed, and price wise probably wouldn't be much of a step up. Could get something used (12" or 15" regardless) for even cheaper too, might just take some time waiting in the classifieds.

I did but the height of the box is maxed at 18" and I think that would have mounting depth problems. That and the goal of this build is a lot for show also. Cleaning up the hatch area re-carpeting and the box I'm trying to make is custom for GTI going to put VW and GTI on top and bottom respectively. I actually wanted a 15" at first, but just doesn't seem like it is going to work that way.

Fair call, well if you are going for looks a fair bit, those Sundowns are a **** good looking woofer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif :) I would have Sundowns if I lived in the states. Probably.

I could probably make 2 10's work but finding 2 subs for the price range I got right now just doesn't seem worth it.
save up your money for a little while longer and get the two tens or buy one build the box how u want it now divide that box into two separate sides and just use one side till u get the money for the other one. i still think that on the large side for two sealed tens you could easily fit two twelves sealed in that box.

can you port up? if you did two ten u could build the box to 2.5cubes after displacements and use two 3 inch aero-ports 15inches long and achieve 31hz tuning or do the same with just one 12

I could make a port but if i were going to it would most likely be a square port instead of aero. Or I could even just close off half of the box to the point it would be smaller. The way RF website says it would be 1.25 cubes by making blocking it off on the inside.

so like i said I have been out of this a while but would it be better to get one beefier 10 compared to more of an entry lvl 12.
depends really what subs you are looking at. for sealed boxes image dynamics has always been my go to sub. for the money though i would go with the ssa gcon 10 in about .8 sealedor the 12 in the space you listed above.budget really dictates what you can get at your level. im gonna run two e10s ported on 1k in my versa i may actually switch to just 1 15 on 500watts
