square port help real quick

so i used this : http://www.carstereo.com/help/Articles.cfm?id=31 to calculate my port length. I want the port to be 8"x18" in a 12 cubic foot enclosure and tuned to 35hz.

I want this to be a square port just in the middle of the box...Not like an L port.

is the correct length 16.4" or is it 12.49" ?

For some reason it changes if I say it is or is not a slot port.
