Sql.....spl?

Can someone explain the difference between an SQL sub and an SPL sub? I currently have a 10w7. what would that be considered and why? What kind of sounds would tell me the difference between the two types of subs (sql and spl)?

SQL is a "loud" system that is still musical (listenable).

A pure SPL system sounds like a "fart box" Its hella loud but isnt very fun to listen too. Well I mean its fun but not easy on the ears.
