i have done alot of reading through the threads on this site to get the basics of the car audio world. alot of good advice and useful information in my opionion, alot of people know their sh*t. at any rate these two terms i find very confusing. as of reading tons and tons of other posts most people base their system off one or another of these terms. i know spl stands for sound pressure level but what does that really mean? does it mean thats its loud as in it will hurt ur ears loud or will you feel your insides moving all around loud? you get the difference? and Sound quality what is that? is it how accurate the bass is and how hard it hits? i know that this question may seem dumb but i honetly dont have a clue to what they truly mean. im just new and looking to learn and i think thats important so any advice info will greatly be appreciated. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

it's not all about the bass... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif SQ, sound quality... accurately reproducing ALL the music, from the lowest lows to the highest highs... SPL... get LOUD! generally the bass since REALLY loud highs tend to hurt... Personally I'm the SQ type... I spent more on my front stage than my sub and a single 12" shiva, which isn't one of the more SPL minded subs and if I crank the sub it's too much for me...

For you it really depends on the type of music you listen to and what you want to hear... there are plenty of people who want 4 12" subs and are happy with stock, or cheap front speakers...

EDIT: ohh and you can hear my highs and mids better outside of the car than the sub outside of the car... but I'll be fixing that soon with sound deadning...

for a little more it dose depend to on the person who is saying sq or spl. You can only say what your expecting and what you have so your thoughts of spl or sq could diffrer from mine. Though to me Sq is maltiple things it is having a reletively flat responce so that its not all just highs and bass or just bass it is having a good representation of what the music was ment to sound like. To me sq also has to do with imaging and such stuff having proper speaker placement, proper boxes, and it is not just about the compenents you use in the instal but also the enclosures they are made with, placement, preperation of electricl system and such, also for the sub it is more so about how acurete and punchy the sound is rather than slopy peaky bass, SPL is purely just how many dbs you can pull out of the vehicle on the inside not on the outside though some people who are rather new like to think of it more on how loud it is on the outside.

This is my opinion on the topic purely though
