SQ: Alpine R? or JL W1?

Id go for the Type R.

The Type R is an ALL AROUND great subwoofer. I think the SQ is excellent, and also the SPL is good.

Lets face it, everyone out there thats looking for bass, is looking for a sub capable of being loud, and clean. As the old saying goes w/ bass, too much is never enuff.

I beleive that if you create the box to suite your musical taste, this sub is the one for you.

I would have to agree with Lemans, the install will determine alot of what you hear.

true. i understand its all about the install, but i dont really see how a sealed box could get too complicated. i understand if you have ports how it could really effect the sound, but most sealed boxes ive heard have had no effect.

im sure if i built a box really small, and compared it to something really big i could tell, but why would i be building a box so far from the subs recomended size?

the size of the box in sealed controls how deep the woofer can play and in clean response it plays a very large roll in how a sub will sound

this is all to some extent though right? i heard a huge sealed box once and it sounded all reverb ish. like hollow. i dont care if it can hit lower if it sound like crap the other 99% of the time. i think im just gonna stick with the manufacturers specs. any thing wrong with that? i also have heard people say 2x recomended volume, but thats seems stupid to me. they wouldnt recomend it if it was THAT far off....

i hate to keep this going, but now im stuck between the Diamond D3 and the type R.

I can get them both for about the same price, so thats not an issue. i am really just concerned with SQ and build quality.

Anyone have pictures of the D3 other than the front of the cone? i can get type R pictures all over, but i cant seem to find too many on the D3.

anyone ever own both, or compare the 2?

oh, and it will be running off 500w rms

I sell both. I like diamonds more (hence the name). I have a D3 cut apart at the shop, I can take pictures of it if you wanted to wait a lil for em. The build quality/details put into them are quite nice. Beats the JL W3V2 for sure (I have that cut apart as well if you want pics)

Oh, and I will say that the D3 has better SQ in my opinion

I was hoping to get an answer like that. Do you know the specs on it? Diamond's website seems to be lacking quite a bit. like Sealed enclosure size, Xmax....

Idq Should type R even be in the SQ catagory i know it gets loud and sounds good but can it just soudn real good?

i tested it in a small sealed box up against a W1 and W3, and it was almost as good as the w3 SQ, and definatly beat the w1 in SPL and SQ. it may be for spl, but at the volumes i was testing it at, on a 500w amp, it DID have good SQ.

Now the diamond i have never heard before, but im definatly leaning toward it now, especially since i can get a 12" D3 for $115 shipped.....

here it is...the R is definetly a SQ subs, an SPL mainly? no...has great SPL. The TYPE X would be considered more of a SQ sub more so than an R, so is said, the W1 doesnt even compare as far as looks side by side, the R will put to shame that JLW1, and alot of others by mere looks alone, and handles way more power.. so in short the R is def a SQ sub with SPL potential and is very clear in clarity. no knocks on JL. great stuff, disgusting prices. if anyone disagrees then i'll sell my type R's...lol
