I had been sold on the 12W1v2, but i am now looking into the Alpine R. I like the W1 a lot, and i was very close to buying it this weekend, but some one sugested i look into the Type R. How do they compare? i like deafening loud, but sound quality is much more important to me. i want clear sound. i really like the 2 ohm DVC i can get with the type R, and i dont think the W1 is avaliable with this.

Amp: Kenwood KAC-7552 - 500W Bridged, or 250W x 2 @ 2 ohm

Box: Custom built Sealed box, about 1.5 cubic feet, but it was designed to fit the W1, so i will have to change my dimentions a bit for the Type R. i will need it to face cone in, and hang out the back, if that changes SQ at all....

and tomorrow i will compare them side by side at stereo shop, so ill be able to see for myself, but i was wondering what other people think.

well i will try them myself, but i would like to see what other people think. i am still thinking the R's would be better for a few reasons.

- Smaller enclosure, even though the sub would be on the outside, it would be a few inches narrower.

- I will be using a 500W amp, so it matches the sub much better. this way i wont have to always be freaking out abut how loud my music is because i dont want to blow my W1

- I like the 2 ohm DVC, that way i can hook up the sub without bridging

I went and checked them out today. im getting them over the W1. i really like the sound of them. i compared them both in small sealed boxes, on a JL 500.1 amp. they are definatly not just an SPL sub. they may not be the best SQ, but they dont sound bad at all. i think that they were much more punchy, and clearly more powerfull.

here it is...the R is definetly a SQ subs, an SPL mainly? no...has great SPL. The TYPE X would be considered more of a SQ sub more so than an R, so is said, the W1 doesnt even compare as far as looks side by side, the R will put to shame that JLW1, and alot of others by mere looks alone, and handles way more power.. so in short the R is def a SQ sub with SPL potential and is very clear in clarity. no knocks on JL. great stuff, disgusting prices. if anyone disagrees then i'll sell my type R's...lol

Diamond D3... owns the W3 and I like the SQ more then the type R. Cut apart the JL and the Diamond side by side... its clear by design which is better. The type R is nicely built as well

well it IS the install that determines it. a l7 can be clean if designed properly //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
