spl ported vs regular slot port?????

sometimes you have to "L" the port to lower the frequency...for some basics check out re calculator (http://www.reaudio.com/speaker_box/LPort_Box_Calc.html) and mess around with the dimensions to get a feel of what you are looking for and maybe better understand how it works. for example the default design on the re site has a 1.7 cuft box tuned to 32.5hz...that's with a 1.5" port and and 8" "L"...take that "L" off and put the value to zero and the tuning goes up to roughly 40 hz and 1.8cuft. Port area stays the same at 18sqinches of port....now if you widen the port to say 2.5" that will give you more port area...roughly 30sqinches...give it a 14" "L" and you'll be roughly 40hz at 1.4cuft. Take off the L and tuning goes up to 48hz.

i guess what i'm trying to say is if both boxes were the same dimensions the one with the L port will be tuned lower...without the L it will be tuned higher. In order to reach a lower tune on the box without the L you either have to make the port smaller or make the box bigger...make sense? the L port just allows you to lengthen the port to tune lower without having to make the box bigger or the port smaller....

for daily you want to be in the low to mid 30hz range and for spl 40hz and higher....tho there are a lot of folks that do run high 30hz to at 40hz tune for daily.

Edit: haha, i guess you found the re site as i was typing this up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

i found it along with a few others around the time i joined

the calculator was giving me headache because i thought you had to have the the L part

so as i was doing my design/designs i was just making the port longer because i thought you had to . in the end i could not get the box design right for squat man now i can get more volume

you guys just dont know i was about to give on car audio it was making me angry

now i have to find out what set up to go with that will blow my system away because it not enough

if you need help just post up max dimensions of box I or someone could come up with something...i just built a box not too long ago for 2 cvr 15s in my sig...just noticed in your sig that you have two of em...

if i keep it dual 15s then next step is building a box

(dont know how much i will benefit from a bigger box same setup(but i bet it wont be enough to satisfy what i want )

depends on how much is necessary

i want to get very much louder then i am currently

i fist got the single sub idea when i saw a solo x 12 on youtube then i can across the new orion hccas but i dont know if a single sub setup can give me what i want because i have not hear a loud one

i was thinking thats were you guys chime in

i have 1 setup suggestion from here so far

1 fi bl 15 in 4 cubes (tuned to 33 i think)

1 ap 1500d

1 kinetik 1800

and 1 Kinetik 2400

Wire your subs lower and make a new box, that should be a big difference with the subs you already have.
should be a big diff before of after i blow them up(i opened my trunk look a took at how they her playing currently and tossed that idea(maybe with a diff amp)

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rotflol.gif.b453361716769b8110ddefc85ff03cd2.gif funny to me (i would drop the gain but that is stll pushing it if its set to high(and if its to low it wil be worthless

i dont have a meter seter thingy either(dmm)watever

What size box do you have the 15s in now? and what is your amp rated at? is that 700wrms TOTAL (350 each) you are giving the subs? They can take about 700wrms each...i had my two cvr's wired to 1ohm giving both roughly 750wrms each and beat like a champ...would get a little stinky if i wanged em for too long.

here's a basic design for the 2 15s...

So a slot port 12x5 will use the same length as a 12x6 port since it has nothing to do with how long the port is?

if using a slot port, no....a 12x5 port will need 5 inch clearance from the back wall to the where the port ends and the 12x6 will need a 6 inch clearance from the back wall...make sense? so it will be 12x5 or 11x6 given the box is 17.75 inches deep...i think:p:
