Can a cheaper SPL meter be useful?

Looks like a Termlab is over $750. yikes!

What about one of these hand held deals for $80? Extech

I'd like to do some measurements with a sub in different positions in the trunk to try to find optimal location.

I have several different meters including a term lab .. and some other fancy clamp meter also one that attaches to the windshield with suction cups .. I can’t remember what brands the other 2 are .. I’d have to look the next time I’m at my Garage

You're not going to know until you test with a meter. Typically even carpeting a box as opposed to painting is going to lose a few tenths.
