speeding

Wow your gus tickets are some expensive down in the US. Here 10 over is only $50cdn, thats like $42usd. and yes that is 10 miles over. You dont hit $100 cdn till you get caught doing like 20 or 30 over, and yes miles again.

But i heard the fines less if u pled not guilty
If you plead "not guilty", you're basically saying "the cop's wrong, I wasn't speeding" in which case you better have enough doubt in your favor, or be able to cast enough doubt as to what really happened...if you knew how fast you were going, and still plead "not guilty", well, you're just being a prick on the court's time and they generally don't like that.

i also heard if u dont go to court the first 2 times n then go the third time the cop wont show up to court n dont have to pay or somethin like that.
You're right in that if the cop doesn't show, you don't have to pay...but, in a lot of places the department docks an officer's pay if he doesn't show, so there's a big incentive for him to show up. Not to mention, if you just blow off court totally without any warning, a bench warrant will be issued for you and you'll have to deal with that as well as the original ticket.

it is my first offense
Do the traffic school option and play it safe for the next few years.

how can any of you who dont live in ny say how it is? not every state is the same, and as a person who has gotten a ticket for speeding in ny, you dont have to call anything in, they give you the ticket with your court date written right on it

Which is why I said "this is how it is in Arkansas anyway".

North Dakota is also very cheap. On regular, 2 lane highways, its $1 for every mila an hour over until you reach 20 or 25 over. So you can be going 74 in a 55 and pay $19 bucks. Its different in town and on the interstate though.

if its your first offense, NY cops tell you when they give you the ticket, plead guilty

It means exactly that. My parents didn't tell my insurance company when I got my license. I was still covered if anything happened, we just didn't have to pay more because I got my license. Eventually they found out I had it and we had to start paying the usual rate.

Did you have an incident and know for a fact you were still covered? I'm pretty sure a claim would be denied if anything like that happened. It is the policyholder's duty to inform the insurance company, not the company's duty to know when someone in the household is legal to drive.

The insurance company said I would be covered. They said it would be the same as if a friend was driving my dads vehicle, as they would be covered too.

But no, I didn't have an incident to prove it.

I know a friend would be covered because anyone is, given the policyholder gives him/her permission. That's interesting though. I understand how the 2 cases would be similar, and about the only difference I know of is that you never will have to pay extra premiums for other drivers to be covered, but it is company policy that ANY licensed children in the household must be added to the insurance policy.

but they also told us that even if we didn't tell them that I could drive, and wasn't listed on the policy, I would still be covered. Once they founhd out i did have my license though they did add me to the policy.

Every company is probably different anyway. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I guess it could be one of those things that you never know unless something really happens. I've never had to deal with a situation like that, so I don't know for sure. I am sure I have hundreds of insureds right now with licensed children that aren't on the policy. And given how a lot of teenagers drive, it may not be much longer until I experience this situation first hand. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

That's true.

The funny thing about it is that I think they knew that we kinda pulled a fast one on them. I went for like a year without them knowing, but as soon as my younger sister got her license, they sent a letter right away saying that they knew she was driving and would be added to the policy. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

so basically i should just plead guilty n then say ill take a driving course n they'll knock down the fine n the insurance company wont be notified?
they'll knock it down to a citation and that dosent get reported to insurance if you plead not guilty, i live in ny, this has happened to me and all my friends, my insurance was never notified that i got a ticket, my premium has kept going down every month as proof it didnt get reported
