speakers too deep

alright, so my brother bought some Alpine SPR-17LS component speakers, but they are too deep for his subaru impreza. So he's willing to give them to me, but they don't fit in my '98 subaru outback either. Should I just make like a spacer ring type thing and get longer screws so that the speaker will fit or is that a bad idea?

Make some baffles out of 3/4" MDF. Should fit then. Or if you don't have access to tools for that, go to Best Buy, and tell them you want 1" speaker baffles for 6.5" speakers, they're $15.

I agree... but make sure that the door panel is not too close to the cone or you may have to use a spacer of some sort so it doesn't hit.

here's a few pics of what I had to do in my past few door installs

the spacers are 1/2" nylon from lowes.(never mind the mess of clay.

another route is to make two baffles and sandwich the speaker in between them.

this is the only pics i could find of my other baffles(took them before i sold em' on ebay).

The pic is only of the front baffle you will also need one on the back of the speaker to reduce the depth.

^^ Very nice.

BTW: The cheap ones from circuit city are pretty flimsy if I remember right... and you might still have to use spacers.
Eh, not really. They're pretty solid, for being plastic. I bought them because I'm too lazy to cut the MDF. They're no where near as good as the MDF baffles, and clay, but it works for now. When I have time I'm going to redo my doors and buy some deadener.
