Speakers failing?

what causes quality speakers(perfects 6.1 components) to sound really harsh, blaring and screachy at high volumes. I can't seem to tune it out on my 3 band parametric equalizer unless I really do some cutting. Just upgraded twice the power(from 75 to 150) and while it does get louder, they still sound so bright. I noticed the midrange frquencies on my eq(500k, 1k, and 2k) are really causing some of the harshness and muddiness. The tweeter is extremely bright even tuned to the lowest setting on the crossover. I thought upgrading the amp to the JL HD600/4 would help and while it does get louder and sound amazing, but at high volume it is too harsh and almost painful to listen to. Is this my speakers you think?? Or just the science of sound?? also its really the worst with rock music and distorted guitars. please help!

I had this same problem, since i listen to metal mostly. I turned the gain down a bit and lowered the mids eq a little and now it sounds sweet. Some mids are just more muddy than others, it's the efficency of them.

Where are the gains and crossovers set???
I have the JL HD600/4 so the gains are set exactly to jl specs with the test cd and votage meter. The crossover is around 85hz. weird, I had the same problem with my old amp, but now with me doubling the power with this new JL amp it gets louder, but seems to have gotten more harsh and bright.

Does anyone know of the best components that can handle the mid range frquencies great and sound smooth??? And some softer tweeters!!! When they are right up in the mirror/dash its so easy for them to be harsh.
