high pass or full

i have a cadence comp.set with passive xovers when i set my amp to full pass it sounds better but alot of people tell me i need it in high pass but it dont sound as good if i keep it in full pass will i hurt my comp.set when it is in hp my mids sound like crap and when it is in fp i have more mid bass

yes, basically your creating a bandpass filter on your mids to keep them from playing too low and possibly damaging the speaker. the lowpass in your bandpass is controlled by the passive crossover, it only allows the mid to play from a certain frequency and below, you have to them use your amp (or your headunit if you have one built in) to create a high pass so the mid won't play any lower than a certain point, and from that point (say 80hz) and lower your subs should pick up whatevers missing

i would'nt run bass boost because typically your bass boost is at a set freqency, say 45hz normally, if you set your hipass at 80, its to cut off 80 and below, so why woud you want to boost it below?
