speakers cutting in and out, crackling, popping, etc....

I had this problem a while ago and thought it was the speakers. I replaced the door and sail speakers and still, the left side constantly cuts out after a bit of music listening. Particularly when the bass is hittin' hard......

Today, even the right side briefly went out and came back on. 9 times out of 10 when I shut off the HU and turn it back on, the left side is STILL out.

If I shut the car off for a while and start it up, like after work or something, both channels will be working for a bit.....then the left side takes a dump. wtf...

The speaker amp is a factory infiniti mounted in the trunk. HU is a Sony xplode. Connected to one another using an aftermarket harness.

I've read that the imput stage may be to blame, which means it's the HU. But sometimes the left door speaker will go out but not the left sail speaker. So it can't be the HU.

When the left side cuts out, if I shut off the subs, the left speakers stay off. But when the bass hits, the left door and sail speakers will crackle and pop. Sometimes they work again for a bit and then the next drum hit from the subs will cut the left channel out again.

I've come to the conclusion that it's either the amp that's effing up, or the speaker wires on the output stage are grounding out. What could it be?

I went to go get Subway and was bangin', as usual. Everything was fine for 5 minutes then the left side cut out, no shit......

here's the weird part. When I turned on the car and was heading home, it was fine.....then it cut out again. But it was the left sail speaker that went out, not the left door speaker. Now I know FOR SURE it must be the amp that's jacked up in some way.

When the bass is hitting, the left sail speaker will crackle, but when the subs are turned off, there is no crackle.

Does anything cut out at low listening levels?
Haven't tried listening at low volume.

Try listening to it at less than half the volume you normally listen to it at and see if it still cuts out after 5 minutes. Sounds like it's time to throw a new amp in, shouldn't be too hard if you already have a spot and wiring.

Earlier I had it on very low volume with the subs turned off in the drive way. i opened the trunk and knocked on the amp to simulate subs causing vibration but the left channel would not cut out. I'm gonna ride around at full volume without bass and see if it cuts out again. I really want to make sure it's the amp and not some wiring issue.

So I took a drive to wal mart and back while playing at full volume WITHOUT bass and not once did the left speakers cut out or crackle.

Obviously, vibrations from the subs playing are causing speakers to cut out. But how?

After re-reading the whole discussion, I think the obvious answer is to stop eating at Subway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Excessive vibration borked something in the amp? I dunno. I'd replace the amp regardless...

did you swap left for right yet?
I can't because the wires are all attached to a plug. This is a factory infiniti amp and I don't want to cut up wires unless I'm replacing the amp outright, which I think is the next step.

what about the output from the factory amp then, swap the left for right. would hate for you to swap the amp out to find it's a shorted wire or sumfin,, hope you get it sorted out

i got 3 questions and will most likely have an answer for you

Question 1 What is your treble and bass set to on the head unit?

Question 2 Does your head unit have preouts? or plain sub outs?

Question 3 Are your subs runnin on the same amp as the components?

every wire is attached to a plug that snaps onto the amp. I don't think swapping would tell me anything considering the fact that sometimes the left sail speaker will cut out but not the left door speaker. Either the amp is crapping out, or there is a grounding out issue with what I'm guessing to be the left sail speaker wires.

Would you be able to smell something if speaker wires got shorted out to the frame of the car? Would there be smoke? I've never messed with the cars speaker wiring so it's hard to think that somehow the insulation of the wire got worn out to the point where the copper strands maybe touching metal.
