speaker wire

how do i know what gauge speaker wire to get? ive always just used some cheap stuff.does it matter if i get smaller or bigger? by the way im runnin 2000 watts to 4 12"s if that helps any.

with the amount of power your running to each sub, it doesn't really matter. 10 would probably be a bit much but like I said doesn't matter a whole lot just dont' 'do anything smaller than 16

Actually if you're at 1 ohm 8 ga wouldn't be a bad idea considering the current draw...

But then you can also say the wire will almost never see maximum current - definitely not for extended periods of time - and 10-12 would be sufficient.
