Speaker wire as power?

Can I use 16g speaker wire to run from the battery to power my HU and Eq? Or do I really need to use other wire? I think it should be fine but just making sure...

Also what size in line fuse should I run for the stock Bose HU?

Still trying to get rid of my alt whine...

you cant run power wire from your batt to HU....itll be on all the time and drain your bat
sure you can - and in most cases - should. The 12v constant should go to the battery - the 12v switched is the one that can't go straight to the battery.

Speaker for HU power is ghetto, but there's no reason it won't work, but I think 16 is on the small side. I'd run at least 10 with a 30A fuse.

You can double up the 16, but then you'd have to fuse each wire seperately. You can buy a 10' roll of 10 ga at the typical hardware store for what -- $3?

Thanks everyone....first im running to positive and neg on the battery, but I'm just running it first outside the car to see if it clears up the alt whine..then install it correctly. Will use proper 10g with 30a fuse, just had extra speaker wire laying around...and I completely forgot about the switched pos...thanks again.
