Speaker and Amp Decision Help - High End vs. Mid Level ?

Hey Guys need some help with a decision.

Amp choices:

A. Polk Audio Momo C300.2 - brand new 150x2 - birthsheet 185x2

B. Arc Audio 4050xxk - 2 yrs old - 50x4 or 180x2 - birthsheet 112x4@2 ohms

Speaker choices:

A. Polk Audio Momo MMC6500 6.5" components

B. Rainbow Audio Germaniums CS265.25

Prices:

Polk C300.2 - $215, AA 4050 - $215, Polk MMC6500 - $180, Germs - $450.

So which choices based on dependability, price and performance? I am not an audiophile so I'm not sure if I would be able to notice a difference b/t the MMC's or the Germs for the money. I know the AA is a better amp but is it better at 2yrs. old than a brand new Polk C300.2?

that polk amp is very solid, i don't think either one would be better than the other. They are both top quality amps and your ears will never be able to tell the difference. I think the rainbows would be the better choice in speaker though.

If it were me, I'd be very happy with the Arc and the Germaniums. Hell of a setup with proper installation and tuning...

As far as your speaker choices, the Polk Momo's are very nice. I love how they sound. Certainly the Rainbows would be better, but you will pay a hefty difference.

There will be a difference. The real question is are you going to be putting the time and effort into properly installing the speakers, putting the deadener in, imagining, time alignment and all the fun stuff there. Are you really looking to hear it all? If your an everyday listener, you don't need a higher end line of speakers.

Now if you really LOVE audio, your going to invest the time into the install, go for it. You will LOVE that setup (germs/AA)

Unless you plan on running an active setup with the Arc amp, go with the Polk for the simple reason of it running cooler. You won't have to bridge it to get the power and number of channels that you need for your setup.
