Speaker & Door panel

Stay with me here. I'm mounting a 5.25" speaker on the outside of my door panel. The inside of the door panel is about 1"-1.5" from the door itself. So there is going to be sound bouncing around in between the door panel and the door at high volumes. I'm going to soundproof the door but I also want to surround the speaker behind the door panel with foam so the sound doesn't go anywhere. (originally the stock 4x6 speakers were installed behind the door panels on the doors themselves. I think if I don't put something around the speakers the sound will leak thru the edges in the door/door panels. Sound rational?

Sounds good.
You mean in between the door "card" and the metal? Just use a foam baffle behind the mid. Just don't expect an enormous amount of midbass from that.

I did that in my Grand Am back in '98; losing the 4x6 for 6 1/2" I mounted them on the outside of the panel, and after some trial and error it sounded great. But then, I had dedicated midbass as well.

Same thing you did. There's space between the door panel and the door itself and the sound from the back of the speaker will be leaking out through the sides of the door. I want to stop that. Appreciate the feedback.
