space between port and hatch?

I am doing a 12" flared aero port in 8.5ft^3 net box with an Fi BTL 18" in a 2000 durango....

How much space do I need to leave between the port opening and the rear hatch? My area to work with is 44" wide, 42" deep and 18" tall, sub up, port back. However I have 3 batteries I need to fit back there as well which are 12" wide. I want to mount them between the rear seat and the box however that would only leave like 6" between the port opening and the rear hatch. That would also only leave me about 4" on the inside of the box between the port opening and the rear baffle.

could you reverse it, putting the batteries in the rear leaving more room for the port? or fire the port up... might have to use a 90 degree elbow for that, or use an elbow, to keep the port away from the wall, and do like i said with the batts in the rear leaving 12'' for the port to fire into the hatch, just ideas

I probably could but I am trying to keep it really clean looking... I don't want a bunch of batteries and wires showing in this one... However at teh very bottom of this link it looks like his batteries are mounted below the floor...? might have to look into that as then I could slide the box forward more and have more room between the port and hatch...

- rango build... ongoing

Nice... that "false floor" is about 8.25" tall and my batteries are like 8" tall so that might work out really nicely. Gives me a place to mount my amps too without them being in the way! I am excited to FINALLY get this build really started tomorrow!

6" away should be fine, i always have mine only a few inches away when i face the port back or to the side.
Yeah, I was thinking the "general rule" is the distance should be about 1/2 of your port diameter... so for a 12" port, you should be about 6" away so I think it will work out.
