space between magnet and mdf....

^ Right.

You obviously don't want it touching, or within millimeters of touching, as any flexing in the box/magnet will create a nasty reverberation if these surfaces touch.

If there's a hole in the center of the magnet or there's a mesh covering this, it's pole vented and will need an inch or more for proper air flow. 2" is a safe bet.

thanx, guys...I guess i can't do it then...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif too deep...

anyways, what subs arn't pole vented? i can't seem to find any that doesn't have a hole in the center of the magnet

Not to hijack the thread, but does this apply to sealed boxes as well? Becuase I don't think I'm pretty sure my subs don't have anywhere near 2" between the magnet and the rear wall of the box //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

I mean, they aren't touching or even really close to touching, but I'd say only about 1/2" or so, maybe 3/4".
