Source of noise?

Still have a alt type noise in the system that I can't isolate. The difference here is it is present without the truck running as well. With the key in the acc position it's there. Where should I look first? I have moved the ground around but it didn't help. I understand alt whine, but this happens without it even on, so I'm stumped. BTW, it does NOT change with RPM.

Anyone?

Thanks!

Mike

Ok, I had considered that...however, I installed the HU (CDA 7892) about 4 months ago and have used it with no other aftermarket stuff, just as a stock replacement and it was quiet, with NO noise. Is it still possible that it is now causing the noise?

As always, thanks!

The only thing that I can tell, is that it is not alt related. It happens with the truck turned off, and the key in the acc position. It does NOT worsen with turning the truck on, nor does it vary with RPM. Makes sense? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Bummer. The amp is oscillating. Sometimes that'll happen because of the dreaded "ground loop". They can be a biatch to fix.
First thing I'd do is pull the RCA cables off the amp's inputs and see if the noise goes away. If it doesn't, the amp has issues. If it does, there's probably a ground loop in the system. If futzing with the ground locations for the HU and amp don't help, there are ground "isolators" you can put inline with the RCA's. That should be a last resort, but I hear that they work in many situations.

Good luck.

yep .. the amp does appear to be oscillating. The only solution is (unless you can repair it) a new amp.. if it is ground loop a filter can solve that. But first like stated above, take the RCA's off and listen for it.

where is the nose coming from exactly? one of the speakers or all of them? if its only one ot the speakers see if the speaker wire isnt runing next to any power lines. not necessarily ur main power amp line. could be some other electrical power lines close to the speakers.

but if the noise is coming from all parts then try the other suggestions everyone said before.

hope i helped

It's everywhere...however, I think I have it isolated. I have 2 amps: JBL 1200.1 and a 180.2 plus two Audio Control units - an EQL and a 6XS. I've narrowed it down to the EQL. It is quiet witht he EQL bypassed and the 6XS connected, and it's quiet running directly from the HU to the Amps. So...now I get to find out WHY the EQL is inducing noise.

Ain't this fun //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

Does your EQL have ground jumpers on the inside?

If so try changing them to see if the noise disappears.

BTW is the noise a really high freq. tone that kinda

goes up and down from time to time.

I had an AudioControl FOUR.1 that made that noise.

I got another one and the noise stopped.

It's just an annoying hiss that does not vary in pitch like typical alt whine. Happens whether the truck is on or not. I'll check into the ground jumpers. I'm assuming they are inside the unit?

Well...ShaunMac wins the golden apple award //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif That fixed it. Just changed the jumper setting in the EQL and it is stone quiet now. I knew I was too anal about my wiring to have a problem, so I was getting frustrated. Guess I should have looked at the EQL .PDF I had as it tell you to try that very thing. Thanks Man!!

Mike

Pic is how it stand now. Still building the beaty cover for the back as well as waiting on a new JBL 1200.1 as the one I bought was bad.
