I've got a couple of questions about relocating the display/controls of my head unit, Pioneer deh-p6350, to an overhead console / custom panel in the roof trim and leaving the bulk of the head unit (the metal box part) in the centre of the dash.
Firstly, can anyone see any major problems in past experience that might make this a bad idea?
ie. Has someone out there tried to do this before and burnt their car to the ground?
Secondly, although it is only about 2-1/2 metres of wire I need to run from the dash up the a-pillar to the roof, would there be enough current sent to the display to power it over this distance? Seeing as though the face is usually attached directly to the front of the CD player.
I don't know much about the internals of source units, but I'm assuming all signal processing is done within circuits in the main box of the unit so no loss of signal/sound quality should be experienced if i move the front away.
Any help is greatly appreciated
