Soundstream1 4.4V Amplifier Ratings

Why is Soundstream rating their amps at 14.4V and not 12V?

I know that most vehicles run above 12V, sometimes even up to 13V+. Also, some of the old school amps have a 12V and a 13.8V rating but I have never seen a vehicle with stock electricals run at 14.4V?

So what is the deal with this and there a calculation to rate it back to 12V. Manipulation of the basic P=VI equation is surely too simplistic for this. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Thanx in advance

Because it is pretty much the industry standard to rate 12v amplifiers @ 14.4v , even the CEA 2006 standard is 14.4v @ 4ohm 1% THD, some of your high end manufactures still rate there amplifiers @ 12.6v or lower, but that is why SS and alot of other manufactures are rated @ 14.4v

OK thanx, I'm pretty much old school and just getting into this game again so I'm not up to speed on industry standards ........

As I recall, back in the late 80's / early 90's pretty much everything was rated at 12V
