SoundStream SPLX 15, Aero Ports. 4" or 6"????

I just ordered a Soundstream SPLX 15 (new version). I have the old box that my PA MOFO 15 was in, 4.4 cu. ft. gross volume. It currently has two, 4"x12" aero ports, for a tuning of around 32Hz. Both Soundstream and PA recommend two, 4" aero ports for these subs but I have heard that I could possibly get port noise. Would I be ok for SPL with the two 4" aeros or is that not enough port area? A calculator I used recommends a MINIMUM of 40 sq. in. of port area for the SPLX but two 4" is just over 25 sq. in. and one 6" is 26 and some change. Anyone know what my best bet would be here? Thanks in advance everyone!

You could use two if you want, that may keep your box a bit smaller too. Try three aero's, that's an in between that may work. I've currently got three SPLX 12's and consider a single 6" aero per sub to be a perfect match in my applications (more SPL oriented, though).

So if one 6" port is pushing the most SPL from your 12, I would say the 15 would also need a 6" for the most SPL. Correct? And I have to ask, is your profile pic the score off them three 12's??? Please tell me it is lol

I think a 6" would be a nice match. And the score is from my two 10's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif I have yet to build a box for the three 12's but Im expecting to gain from what you are referring to.

I will go with a 6" at around 30Hz then, to make up for the subs high Fs. Thanks for the help and I would love to see them three 12's in action once your done. You doing a build log?

Nah, I had them in my RSX when I was on Team SoundStream a few yrs back and have held on to them since, with XXX6500d's for most of my time with them. Built a box as big as I could in the hatch and put two 6's internal, and built a different box with three 6's with a higher tuning for comps. I love these subs for daily, they get down.

Here is the SPL box, the three aero's are firing up and you can barely see them as everything is black.

Daily box, it was pretty [email protected] loud. Pic is of it in my Honda Fit.

Awesome! Love to see Soundstream on here! Have always loved the quality of build and the sound of their amps and subs.... Once I get a second 15, I want to go with a bigger, Soundtream amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
