Hey Guys,

Well, I'm kinda disappointed with Soundstream. I loved my system for the first year I would say, but then everything seem to go wrong with my amps. The VGA600.2 has a blown channel and a couple of days ago, my VGA1600.2 completely shut off. No power at all. I didn't get a chance to play around with it but what do you think it could be? Everything was wired pretty tight...check the install here: http://www.streeteffectz.com/jordantl/

I mean the 600.2 has power and they are coming from the same source with a distro block so unless there is something wrong with the block or the power wire happened to come lose(which I don't think is the case) , it must be a dead amp no? Anything else I should check. I would still get power even if there was another wire issue correct? Can't be the remote wire because there is a remote feed from the 1600.2 into the 600.2, how about the ground wire? I'm gonna fool around with it this weekend but I honestly think the amp is dead. That's what I get for buying off ebay I guess.

So now this leads me to my next question. I have an old Soundstream reference 700S, and being that the XXX needs a ton of power, do you think the 700S would do the job for the time being? I've heard people wiring it down to .05 ohm load and they were getting nearly 1000 watts? What do ya think? Is this possible with the 2 ohm DVC XXX?

What would you guys suggest to power my xxx in the future? I loved the look of the VGA's but performance wise, they seem to be sub par. I never got the 1600.2 benched but I doubt it was putting out anywhere near 1600 watts. I like my amps very clean looking but performance comes first but the price tag is always an issue.

Thanks

Jordan

Sorry to hear your misfortunes. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

By all means put that 700S on the sub before you spend anymore money. You may be surprised.

Streeteffects is out of business now, no?

Checked the amp fuses with a dmm? Vga's do have a short curcuit protection mode where it will turn the amp off and try to turn the amp back on once the short is fixed. Didn't run the amps under low battery voltage? Just looked over the install, guessing there was enough air flow for the amps? Did all of your problems happen at once, long time span between?

Hey man,

Yeah, I think I will hook it up this weekend. So is it possible to do it at .5 ohm load?

No, they aren't out of business? where did you hear that?

I don't have a dmm but maybe I will pick one up. So you mean the fuses on board. The ones at the bottom right?

No, I run the amps around 14 v

Air flow shouldn't be a problem. There is alot of room under there in the false floor.

The channel blew on my 600.2 a few months ago now the 1600.2 just shut off. and I've had the system for about 1 yr.

I was thinking the VAG's had blade automotive fuses that could be accessed on the outside? But come to think about it, I don't think they do. Scratch that idea. Guess get a dmm and go through the system, if everything looks fine I'd take the amp back plate off and look at the borad for burnt marks etc.

right, there are no fuses on the outside like the older soundstream stuff. So how exactly do I check everything with a DDM. never used one before, just hold it onto each input? Or the power wire? or what?

Not to be harsh, but that's just not Soundstream. The old school amp you have IS Soundstream. There has never been a company that sold out and actually IMPROVED quality IMO. Most of it get's taiwanese boards and a big name brand logo and life goes on.

Slap that old school dog in there and get to crankin'. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Put a real soundstream in there! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Didnt Ron move over to Installations Unlimited? Merge maybe?
Can he not troubleshoot this for you?
Yeah, he is more than willing to do it for me, I just bother him too much....lol Plus he is mad busy right now.

Yeah, Installation Unlimited actually bought them out. Made him an offer he couldn't refuse so in the feature you will see Installation Unlimited featuring Street Effectz.
